5 Biggest Weight Loss Mistakes Women Make

Are you trying to lose weight, but can' t figure out why you're not making progress? I know exactly what that feels like: working out, eating clean but frustrated AF that the scale ain’t changing! Well, after working with hundreds of women I’ve narrowed down exactly why women have trouble losing weight.

Chances are, you’re probably making one of the mistakes below. While there are so many things that impact if you lose weight and tone up, there are definitely some habits (and behaviors) that are most important to correct to hit your weight loss goals. Want to know what they are?

Not giving yourself enough time to see change.

When you first start a “diet program” you expect to see results fast. And it makes sense: you’re putting in hard work to your goals! But reality is, weight isn’t a behavior… it’s a GOAL and it takes small, sustainable changes consistently over time to get you to your goals. So be realistic with yourself, and realize that it takes time to reach your goals… especially considering so many things impact your progress such as what weight you’re starting off at AND if you’ve been on a lot of fad diets in the past.

Not eating enough food.

To lose weight you have to eat less calories than your body needs to maintain it’s weight, however just because you eat less doesn’t mean you’re going to hit your goals. I used to be the worst at this: I thought that eating as little amount of food and calories would guarantee weight loss. After cutting out so many calories in my own diet back in college and exercising over 1 hour per day… I couldn’t possibly have eaten less or moved more to hit my weight loss goals! That’s why you must focus on FUELING your body with nourishing foods to boost your metabolism and create a sustainable diet program so you don’t just lose weight, but maintain your results FOR LIFE!

When you don’t see progress, you quit.

We live in an instant gratification society… and not only do we not give enough time to SEE change in our body (refer to biggest mistake #1 above) BUT we also quit before we even give our body a damn opportunity to change. When you just began a new exercise routine or diet… you can’t expect change overnight. In fact, you can’t out-do years worth of unbalanced eating, too big of a restriction and unfocused exercise by just a few weeks of a program! Commit to the journey, not just the result; and stick with it.

Following BAD nutrition advice, like cutting out ALL your favorite foods!

All over social media you literally see nutrition information, the best “fat burning foods” and influencers promoting certain supplements to help you achieve your weight loss goals. It’s EVERYWHERE!! And worst of all, many diets being promoted online promise QUICK weight loss by strictly cutting out foods that “make you fat.” While there are certain healthful foods you must emphasize in your diet to hit your weight loss goals, it is a total LIE that you have to cut out certain foods like carbs, sugar, alcohol or even fat from your diet to lose weight. Bottom line: Whatever diet you follow you have to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight! This means eating less calories than what your body burns!🔥

Not doing the right type of workouts for your goals.

For my babes looking to not only lose weight, but tone up (meaning gain muscle and lose fat) you can’t achieve this goal without exercise. However, exercise is not created even!! Just like nutrition. To build muscle, you must actually exercise in a way that HELPS you build muscle (and not break it down) which means strength training and body weight/resistance exercises. Running is great for you cardio bunnies that love the treadmill, but I know firsthand that doing hours of cardio DID NOT get me to my goals!

If you’re anything like me, you know how frustrating it can be to feel like you’re eating healthy, but still can’t lose inches or gain the muscle for that toned body you dream of. It’s not on the list, but please don’t be too hard on yourself! I know what it’s like to feel not confident in my body and willing to go on ANY type of restrictive & crazy diet to reach my goals.

Instead of throwing in the towel, remember these tips and try to set small, achievable goals to get you closer to hit your weight loss dreams.
