The 5 Best Trader Joe's Fall Foods For Weight Loss
Losing weight doesn’t mean you can’t have Trader Joe’s seasonal fall foods!
If you’re reading this, chances are you know how much I embrace all things pumpkin when September hits!! I 100% consider myself a Fall SUPERFAN especially when it comes to all the seasonal goodies Trader Joe’s brings out to celebrate the change in seasons. Problem is, I’m realizing that most babes I work with feel guilty buying and “indulging” in many of their their fall food products mostly because many are more processed, or contain carbs and added sugars!
If you’re trying to lose weight, I want to remind you that the total amount of calories you consume always matters most. As part of my 3 step weight loss formula, of course I want you to focus on macro-balanced eating and ensuring you focus on whole, natural foods… but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a Pumpkin Joe-Joe’s when fall hits! That’s because reality is, 1 pumpkin cookie does not make or break your weight loss goals. And I want to show you how I eat these FUN Trader Joe’s foods without ever stressing about my weight!
Starting this list off with a yogurt that may pack a lot of sugar, but is tasty AF and can still be in your cart. See the thing is, just because something has sugar doesn’t mean it’s bad for weight loss. As long as your total calories are in a place to lose weight when you average out the week, you’ll lose weight babe! BUT I also think context is everything. Imagine if you had this yogurt as a healthier sweet tooth option. One single-serving of this yogurt is 130 calories, which honestly isn’t much when you’re thinking of a FUN little indulgence! And although it has 16 grams of sugar (13 grams of which is added sugars) it also packs 12 grams of protein which helps balance out your sweet tooth choice. So if you had this after dinner instead of going for ice cream or a whole handful of cookies, it could save you calories and help you hit your weight loss goals faster, babes!
PS - Put this in the fridge and make a frozen pumpkin yogurt treat!
Pumpkin Cream Cheese Spread
Cream cheese means one thing: BAGELS! And although most babes I work with think carbs cause weight gain, the reality is an unbalanced diet with mostly processed carbs, not enough natural foods and overeating causes weight gain! See, it ain’t as simple as you think! Anyway, this cream cheese spread is amazing. As part of 3 step weight loss formula, step 2 is all about macronutrients. To lose weight, you not only have to be in a calorie deficit… but you need a balance of all the macronutrients: carbs, proteins and fats! A bagel and cream cheese can pack a lot of calories, but that doesn’t mean it can’t fit. If you had 1/2 bagel with 2 tbsp cream cheese for breakfast as your carb then paired with protein and fat sources like eggs or plain greek yogurt, there you have a balanced weight loss meal! So go buy this cream cheese and if you make this for breakfast, be sure to tag me so I can see it in all it’s glory!
Honey Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli
This pumpkin ravioli may be the best thing I’ve ever tasted… and god I wish they had it year round! On my Instagram @sorority.nutritionist I highlighted that this savory ravioli choice at Trader Joe’s is actually one of the healthiest options. This choice is better for you babes that bloat bloating because it has 180 mg sodium per serving, which is far less than their others that pack 400-500 mg per serving. I also love that this choice tastes delicious, packs 8 grams of protein to help you boost your metabolism and hit your protein needs at dinner… plus if you have a portion it’s only 220 calories!
Moral of the story: Watch your portions. 1 serving of this ravioli packs 220 calories… even though most babes I know could eat this whole container for dinner! If you did, you’d be eating 550 calories and 92 grams of carbohydrates. While the calories aren’t that high if you exercise… the carbs are way above what most babes need when building a macro-balanced plate. Instead balance out your plate with 1 serving of this ravioli then pair with a protein like chicken and a side salad!
Fall Harvest Salsa
No joke: I wait all year for this salsa. Out of all the fall food items Trader Joe’s has, this one is definitely one of the most healthful choices that I definitely recommend stocking up on! Of course because it’s salsa I have it with chips… but honestly this product is so versatile! To stay on track, cook chicken in your crock pot and simmer it with this sauce for an easy meal prep idea! That way you have your protein all week to stay on track building macro-balanced plates AND you hit your protein needs at every meal to boost your metabolism. It’s a win, win babes!
Corn & Chile Salsa
Real life: I just recently found this product, and I think it’s definitely worth a buy for you babes! At the store I sampled it mixed with their pre-packaged guacamole and fall tortilla chips… and babes let me tell you it was AMAZING!
In case you didn’t know, corn is a starchy carbohydrate very similar to bread or potatoes. That being said, this salsa is a really great way to flavor food without adding many calories. 2 tbsp of this salsa is 45 calories, and you could use it to top chicken, flavor pork, or add as a side to your favorite meal to add some fall flavor!
Do you love all the FUN foods at Trader Joe’s, but feel guilty buying products you know may not be 100% natural and “healthy?” If you’re anything like how I used to be, you try to hard not to eat FUN foods but end up having 1 bite which turns into having a whole bag of whatever food you were trying to avoid! UGH!
I know how frustrating it can be to feel like you’re trying to eat healthy, but then your intentions don’t align with what you actually do. And before you know it, you’re gaining weight again and farther away from your goals.
